Project “Parliament for the Future of Europe (PaFutEU)” – 2022-2024

In 2023 and 2024 the Foundation will be involved in the project “Parliament for the Future of Europe (PaFutEU)”, a multi-year project led by Democracy International, which aims to promote the involvement of citizens in the debate on the Future of Europe and mobilize for the 2024 European elections, paying special attention to groups with less participation and/or in situations of greater vulnerability, in the Portuguese case young women and/or those with migration backgrounds.

The activities will take as their starting point the conclusions and themes of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE), and envisage a line of work focused on “painéis de cidadãs e de cidadãos” e por outro um trabalho de sensibilização dos candidatos a deputados europeus.

The Portuguese Platform for Women's Rights (PpDM) is a partner in this project and involved FCF in terms of using the Public Hearings Methodology.

In 2023, 6 transnational events will be held on one of the CoFoE topics. The results of the debate will be published in a bilingual final report. In 2024, national events will be held in a public space, reaching a wider audience, with the MEPs of each country participating in the project.

It will be the responsibility of the Portuguese partners to work on the issues of Economy, Social Justice and Employment, from the perspective of women, namely young women and migrants, applying the Public Hearings methodology. Other topics to be addressed by the partners, Germany, Estonia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Slovenia are Digitalisation, Youth, Culture and Education, Climate and Environment, the European Union in the World and European democracy.

The project kick-off event, in which we participated, already took place in Cologne in January 2023.

The Conference on the Future of Europe took place from May 2021 to May 2022 and was co-organised by the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission. Its aim was to ensure greater involvement and attention of citizens in defining the policies and strategic vision of the European Union. To this end, “Citizens' Panels” were promoted, which contributed to the Conference, whose motto was “The future is in your hands!”
