Introduction to the Health Programme

This programme encompasses three projects. Two of them took place between February 2005 and February 2009 – “National Childhood Obesity Screening Day” and the campaign “Tá-se Bem” – both centred on the scourge of childhood obesity, seeking to raise awareness among young people and the general population about this serious problem.
The third project – Health and Participation – seeks to meet one of the main guidelines of the WHO, which considers that community participation at all levels of health policies, systems and actions is fundamental to health promotion.

Its objectives are:

  • Raise awareness of the concept of health as promotion of collective well-being.
  • Inform about citizenship intervention in health promotion at national and European level.
  • Reflect on the constraints and support conditions necessary for the emergence of active citizen participation initiatives in health promotion.

For this project, the preparation of a seminar to be held in the second quarter of 2010 is underway. The preparation of this seminar involves direct contact with local officials, at national level, responsible for intervention in the area of health promotion, as well as with international officials responsible for community health participation projects.
