Poster - The Dimension of Care
Poster – Conference Cycle The Dimension of Care

Dates: 25 to 27 June and 10 July 2009
Venues: National Centre for Culture, Lisbon; University of Evora, room 131 of the Colegio Espirito Santo; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon

Driven by the figure of Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo as a symbol of a way of shaping public life and inscribing within it both feminist demands and those of all forms of discrimination, the project Women, Ethics and Public Space aims to articulate three topics – women, ethics and public space – and three authors – Hannah Arendt, Adela Cortina and Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo – in order to re-signify the concept of public space.

This initiative, the first intervention of the aforementioned Project, focused on the concept of Care/Caring, exploring it both in its importance in the thinking of Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo, its philosophical roots in Heideggerian thought, and its repercussions on the various dimensions of public life.

To that extent, this conference cycle had the following objectives:

  • Pay tribute to Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo
  • Give visibility to Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo's thinking in academic circles
  • Share results of ongoing research related to the conference cycle theme
  • Stimulate the creation of a network of researchers
