This publication resulted from the desire to make accessible to the public the pioneering nature and relevance of the thought of Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo, the transdisciplinarity in which she moved, the boldness of some of her perspectives and her own ideas about the world. It was organized around the themes that occupied her most throughout her life, reflected and presented in texts delivered in different contexts and countries in the last years of her life, namely:

I – women, equality, parity democracy;
II – democracy, citizenship, human rights;
III – development, quality of life, population;
IV – education, values, culture, religion and ethics.

The preface to this Anthology was written by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the afterword by Maria João Seixas. On 15 February 2012, a public presentation session was held at the Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa, with the work being presented by Maria de Belém Roseira. The publication was supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
