Literacy, Women and Leadership   —

Workshop: Women and Leadership

Date: 12 May 2007
Location: Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Porto.

Introduction

Are there lacking forms of leadership that transform the place of decision into a locus vitae? Do women contribute to the construction of new ways of dealing with leadership and the exercise of power?

These are some of the central questions of the action-research project Literacy Women Leadership of Fundação Cuidar O Futuro, a project carried out "in a network" among Portuguese and international researchers.

The Foundation invites women from different professional and academic contexts to participate in a workshop aimed at reflecting on their leadership experiences and equally contributing to the ongoing research.

The workshop is structured in two stages. The first stage will be conversational learning, consisting of an inventory of leadership experiences and a deepening of concepts.

The second stage will be qualitative research in the form of a focus group. The focus group, which allows the production of data through group interaction on the topic in question, will be audio recorded.

The three central guiding questions for reflection will be:

  • What is your experience of leadership and power, exercised by women: by yourself and/or by others?
  • Were there women who inspired you to deviate from "dominant", majority models and discourses? What are their "profiles"?
  • In terms of power and decision-making, how not to copy the dominant models?
